ABOUT
NARRESHO ALLIANCE
WHO ARE WE ?
Narresho Alliance stands as a testament to community-driven resilience in Kenya's Kajiado East Sub-County. Founded in 2021 under the Societies Act, Narresho Alliance unites diverse farmers practicing various forms of agriculture, from livestock to crop farming and more.
We are not just an organization; we are a tight-knit community dedicated to advancing climate-smart agriculture. Our mission is clear: empower smallholder farmers, enhance their incomes, and mitigate the impact of climate change on agriculture. Through collaborative learning, innovative farming practices, and strategic partnerships, Narresho Alliance is shaping a future where sustainable farming thrives despite environmental challenges.
Narresho Alliance principal objective is to “promote a change to climate resilient agriculture whilst aiming to increase the income of smallholder farmers and cushioning them against the unpredictable effects of climate change”
Narresho Alliance seeks to achieve its objective by:
Promoting and encouraging learning and information-exchange on climate-smart farming and conservation agriculture.
Fostering new farming practices that enable the reclamation and preservation of fragile ecosystems within the community of farmers.
Advocating for the adoption of new farming practices and strategies such as beekeeping ventures, fruit-tree farming, agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture and conservation agriculture.
Encouraging a shift towards mechanization in agriculture.
Seeking partnerships with liked-minded organisations, donors, funders and government.
NARRESHO ALLIANCE OBJECTIVES
Reforestation is not just a local endeavour; it is a global responsibility
By supporting this project, you have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on both the environment and the lives of the people of Kajiado. Together, we can turn ASALs into thriving lands, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
SECURING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Narresho Alliance begins an ambitious journey with a simple yet impactful project – leading the charge of reforestation in the semi-arid lands of Kajiado. Kajiado County, like all arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) in Kenya, faces severe environmental challenges, including possible desertification, soil degradation and dwindling water resources which predisposes people, livestock and wildlife to hunger and poverty. Reforestation has been identified as key to addressing these challenges and securing a sustainable future for the people of Kajiado.
PROBLEMS
Desertification
Kajiado’s ASALs conditions have led to the gradual transformation of fertile land into degraded lands on the verge of being turned into deserts, resulting in the displacement of communities and the loss of agricultural productivity.
Water Scarcity
Reforestation can help replenish groundwater and restore natural aquifers, addressing the chronic water scarcity issue in the region.
Bio Diversity
The degradation of Kajiado’s ecosystem has led to the loss of valuable flora and fauna, threatening local biodiversity.
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
Soil Stabilization
Tree roots will help prevent soil erosion, securing fertile land for agriculture.
Water Management
Reforestation will enhance water retention in the soil, ensuring a more consistent water supply for communities and livestock.
Carbon Sequestration
Trees will play a vital role in sequestering carbon, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
Biodiversity Conservation
The revival of native vegetation will provide habitat for various species and improve overall ecosystem health.
" Ancient trees are precious. There is little else on Earth that plays host to such a rich community of life within a single living organism. "
- Sir David Attenborough
REVIVING LIFE IN THE HEART OF SEMI-ARID KAJIADO
Narresho Alliance begins an ambitious journey with a simple yet impactful project – leading the charge of reforestation in the semi-arid lands of Kajiado. Kajiado County, like all arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs) in Kenya, faces severe environmental challenges, including possible desertification, soil degradation and dwindling water resources which predisposes people, livestock and wildlife to hunger and poverty. Reforestation has been identified as key to addressing these challenges and securing a sustainable future for the people of Kajiado. In December 2022, the Government of Kenya launched the National Tree Growing and Restoration Campaign targeting to plant 15 billion trees by 2032 and targets to bring on board all 47 counties, stakeholders including community groups, charities, schools, religious organisations, farmers and others in raising tree nurseries and planting trees in their compounds, lands, farms and forests.
" Even if I knew that tomorrow would go to pieces I would still plant my apple tree "
- Martin Luther
Narresho Alliance comprehensive plan involves the following steps:
01
Community Engagement
Collaborate closely with local communities who are the owners of the land and the farmers to ensure they are active participants in and beneficiaries of the project.
03
Sustainable Agriculture
Encourage adoption of sustainable agriculture practices alongside reforestation efforts to improve food security e.g. adoption of conservation agriculture practices in farming.
02
Native Species Selection
Plant drought-resistant, indigenous tree species that also provide forage to livestock and wildlife e.g. certain species of acacia trees.
04
Tree Nurseries
Set up at least 5 tree nurseries for nurturing the selected species or varieties of trees for reforestation.
05
Monitoring & Evaluation
Implement rigorous monitoring systems to track the project’s progress and impact.
WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
Narresho Alliance relies on funding and in-kind support of well-wishers and hence welcomes donations or fundraising as well as any valuable partnership that can include offering knowledge and expertise to farmer groups, women and youth of Narresho Alliance through training workshops.
